Yesterdays Lloyds List (9 November 2011) contained an article discussing the latest OPEC annual report and its forecasts on road fuel demand. The organisations figures show that in 2010 road trasnportation acounted for 34.2 million barrels oil equivalent per day. OPEC forcasts that this figure will rise to 39.7 million boepd and on to 43.3 million boepd by 2035. Given the potential increase in marine gasoil demand in Emission Control Areas after 2015, it is likely that there will be competition for middle distillates and increased demand from both marine and road transportation is likely to increase the differential between distillate and residual marine fuels.
